Downtown Everett Association Launches Downtown Vision and Action Plan
Perkins Eastman selected to lead urban planning and public engagement strategy
EVERETT, WA — The Downtown Everett Association (DEA) has officially launched the development of its Downtown Vision and Action Plan, a comprehensive effort to help shape the future of Everett’s core downtown district.
The plan will establish a long-term vision for downtown while identifying practical, near-term actions that can create meaningful improvements. It will focus on urban design, public spaces, economic vitality, community connections, and other opportunities that will help downtown grow as a vibrant and welcoming center for the community.
To lead this effort, DEA has selected nationally recognized architecture, planning, and urban design firm Perkins Eastman. The consultant team will be led by Susan McLaughlin, Principal-in-Charge of Perkins Eastman’s Seattle office. The team brings extensive experience in urban design, public life, community engagement, and economic development.
A key part of the planning process will be engaging the community. Over the coming months, Perkins Eastman and DEA will host public workshops, stakeholder roundtables, digital surveys, and pop-up events throughout the Downtown Improvement District. These opportunities will give residents, business and property owners, community members, and regional partners a chance to share their ideas, priorities, and vision for downtown.

The completed Downtown Vision and Action Plan will provide a shared roadmap for future investment, policy, development, and public space improvements. The plan is intended to be a resource for the public, City of Everett, local agencies, community organizations, businesses, and other partners working to shape the future of downtown.
Community members can get involved now. DEA and Perkins Eastman are beginning a Public Life Study to better understand how people use and experience downtown’s streets, sidewalks, public spaces, and gathering places. DEA and Perkins Eastman will host the first public visioning workshop on November 12. Perkins Eastman and Leland will share background research and findings from the Public Life Study, followed by a discussion of downtown’s key challenges, goals, and vision for the future. Community members are encouraged to attend, share their ideas, and help shape the plan.

The plan and final deliverables are expected to be completed in 2027.
